There are also a fair number of dual/parallel Irish-English texts out there to continue with once you run out of L-R materials and have gotten Irish pronunciation down.įor some reason, all the L-R appropriate Irish audio books that I’ve listened to so far are in the Munster dialect. They all look like they will work OK for my purposes (although I’ll save Úlla for the end since the available English translations of the stories are very, very loose). At this point, I have bought or saved the chapters from Matthew, Mo Sgéal Féin/My Story, Séadna, Labharfad Le Cach/I Will Speak to You All, and Úlla. I don’t personally know about the other sites. I’ve used Amazon and Litriocht (as well as and wikisource online) before successfully. If the links violate any sort of rule of the board, I will be happy to repost this message without the links (needless to say, I have no connection with any of these sites). If anyone knows of additional L-R materials, please mention them in this thread or elsewhere on the board.įor convenience sake, I’ve included links to where the materials can be bought or downloaded-there may be other places where these materials can be gotten, but these were the ones that I was able to find. I’ve also listed some L2-L2 materials, which one could partially L-R and which might help with pronunciation (Irish is pretty difficult to pronounce correctly), reading skills, etc.
Since other people may be having just as much trouble as I did, I thought that I would list the materials that are available in Irish that would be appropriate for Listening-Reading (Irish audio, Irish text, English text). However, after some effort and some extra help from Teango’s very useful thread about Irish language materials ( ID=25204&PN=1), I have been able to find enough materials to L-R this language properly in the (hopefully near) future. I’ve also recently started learning Irish Gaelic (Gaeilge), but to my dismay I had a much harder time finding materials for Irish than for other languages I’ve tried the method on. Lately, I’ve been using the L-R method as my foremost form of language study (here’s the original L-R thread for anyone still unfamiliar with it: sp?TID=6366).
